Ankle Sprains & Fractures
An ankle sprain is an injury that occurs when the ligaments supporting the ankle are stretched or torn, typically due to twisting or rolling the ankle. This can result in pain, swelling, bruising, and limited range of motion. Ankle sprains are classified into three grades based on severity:
Grade I: Mild stretching of ligaments without significant damage.
Grade II: Partial tearing of ligaments, causing moderate pain and instability.
Grade III: Complete tearing of ligaments, leading to severe pain and significant instability.
An ankle fracture, on the other hand, involves a break in one or more of the bones that make up the ankle joint, often resulting from a fall, direct impact, or twisting injury. Symptoms of an ankle fracture can include severe pain, swelling, bruising, difficulty bearing weight, and visible deformity.
